English, Welsh and Scottish Railway (EWS)
Formed after the privatization of British Rail in the mid 1990s,
English, Welsh & Scottish Railway (EWS) is the United Kingdom’s
largest rail freight company, moving over 100-million tonnes of
freight each year with 8000 trains each week.
As part of their commitment to customer service, in August 2000
EWS enlisted the help of Jade to build their customer ordering and
train planning system for the transportation of coal.
Since the successful implementation of this first system, the partnership
between EWS and Jade has grown significantly. Jade now provides
EWS with both on site and offshore services to deliver planning
and monitoring systems that cover all EWS freight trains.
These systems reinforce the commitment of EWS to outstanding customer
service.
With train schedules planned only a week in advance, there is little
time for delay in satisfying customer orders. EWS require systems
that manage orders and train plans efficiently, providing them with
more time and more opportunities to help customers. Achieving this
requires a standard approach to train planning across all lines
of business, and a single repository for all train plans. EWS must
also account for engineering work planned by Network Rail to minimize
the effects of track closure on their customers.
Providing responsive and accurate information to customers is essential,
including real-time train performance information, and online delivery
schedules.
The EWS Group of Companies is a privately held transportation and logistics group offering a broad range of rail-related services to customers across Europe.
EWS Group Companies include:
- English Welsh & Scottish Railway – dedicated rail operations for four key sectors:
- Intermodal and logistics
- Electricity supply industry
- Heavy raw material
- Construction and waste
- Euro Cargo Rail - a supplier of rail freight services in France and Germany, and through the Channel Tunnel to Britain.
- ESG - a provider of pioneering consultancy services for rail engineering solutions.
- Axiom Rail - a supplier of maintenance, refurbishment, leasing solutions and suspension systems for rail rolling stock.
- Railway Approvals – a company servicing clients to enable new locomotives and wagons to be approved for operation on rail infrastructure.
- Transeo - a specialist partnership delivering transport specific information systems, technology services and business process outsourcing.
Transeo’s clients include passenger rail operators, rail infrastructure providers and industry bodies. Transeo holds contracts for the delivery of products and services for clients through to 2012, enabling investment in long-term systems and product development for the benefit of current and future clients.
