Getting Started With JADE

IF YOU HAVE 30 MINUTES, TRY THE FOUR INTRODUCTION TUTORIALS

These tutorials give you an overview of the JADE development environment and teach introductory JADE skills.

The tutorials consist of:

• Tutorial 1: An overview of the JADE development environment. A simple Library application forms the basis of the examples.
• Tutorial 2: Adds some further capabilities to the Library system including multi-user considerations.
• Tutorial 3: Introduces the Erewhon Investments example system. You will create a view of the classes using the JADE Report Writer Configurator and then design and run a report. The Erewhon Investments example system is supplied with JADE, or you can download it here.
• Tutorial 4: Introduces the use of Rational Rose with your JADE Development Environment.
  
  Note: Rational Rose is not supplied with JADE and must be purchased and installed separately.

IF YOU HAVE A COUPLE OF HOURS, TRY THE THREE-PART INTRODUCTION COURSE

The Introduction to JADE Course is a short three-part self-study course designed to give you an appreciation of the capabilities of the JADE Development Environment. Some previous program development experience is required. The course consists of:

• Object-Oriented JADE: An interactive session that revises your understanding of objects and shows how JADE seamlessly and easily implements these concepts.
  Time: approximately 25 minutes.
• The JADE Development Environment: In this session you become familiar with the JADE development tool, designing, developing, inspecting, testing, debugging, backing up and deploying an application. Time: approximately 60 minutes.
• Building Your First JADE Application: In this session you develop a multi-user, Windows-based, event driven booking application. This section can be completed in around 70-80 minutes.

IF YOU HAVE A FEW DAYS, TRY THE DEVELOPER'S COURSE

• The JADE Developer's course is an extensive self-study course designed to guide you through all the main areas of JADE. Learn how to build a multi-user JADE application using good design and performance practices.
• Some familiarity with object-orientation and event-driven programming will help.
