JADE — For Windows and Linux
JADE runs on the following Operating Systems on
Intel-compatible hardware:
- Windows
- Red Hat Linux
- SUSE Linux
Running JADE in 32-bit mode on 64-bit Windows and 64-bit Red Hat and SUSE
Linux is supported from JADE 6.0.23 and JADE 6.1.
In preferred relationships, support for IBM-specific hardware platforms
is available on request.
Note: Although minimum Service Pack levels are specified below, we recommend that customers keep up-to-date with Service Packs and security updates for whatever operating system they are running.
Operating Systems
Minimum Operating System requirements are as follows.
Database Server and Application Servers
- Windows 2003 Server (recommended) with SP1 and the latest security updates
- Windows 2000 Server (minimum) with SP4 and the latest security updates
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 (RHEL 3) Update 5, up to
JADE 6.1 only
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 (SLES 9) Service Pack 2, up to JADE 6.1 only
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL 5), from JADE 6.2
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (SLES 10), from JADE 6.2
Standard Client only
- Windows XP Professional (recommended) with SP2
- Windows Vista Business (recommended) or better, from JADE 6.2
- Windows 2000 Professional (minimum) with the latest Service Packs and security updates
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 (RHEL 3) Update 5, up to
JADE 6.1 only
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 (SLES 9) Service Pack 2, up to JADE 6.1 only
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL 5), from JADE 6.2
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (SLES 10), from JADE 6.2
- Any Database Server or Application Server OS
Thin Client Workstation
- Windows XP Professional (recommended) with SP2
- Windows Vista Home Premium (recommended) or better, from JADE 6.2
- Windows 2000 Professional (minimum) with the latest Service Packs and security updates
- Any Database Server or Application Server OS
Up to and including JADE 6.1, the JADE Thin Client runs on Windows 98,
Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows 2003 and Windows XP.
From JADE 6.2, the JADE Thin Client will not support Windows 98 and
Windows NT.
From JADE 6.2, the JADE Thin Client will support Windows Vista.
Compact JADE
Mobile editions of the JADE Thin Client and Single User Client are referred to as the Compact JADE platform.
- Pocket PC 2003 SE
- Windows Mobile 5.0 for SmartPhone (recommended for Thin Clients only)
- Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC Phone Edition
- Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC
Web Servers
For JADE systems that deploy HTML clients, the minimum Web Server
requirements are:
- IIS Version 6.0 for Windows
- Apache 2.0.43 for Windows, up to JADE 6.1 only
- Apache 2.2.3 for Windows, from JADE 6.2
- Apache HTTP Server version 2.0.46 for Red Hat Linux
(RHEL 3), up to JADE 6.1 only
- Apache HTTP Server version 2.0.40 for SUSE Linux
(SLES 9), up to JADE 6.1 only
- Apache HTTP Server version 2.2.3 for Red Hat Linux
(RHEL 5), from JADE 6.2
- Apache HTTP Server version 2.2.3 for SUSE Linux
(SLES 10), from JADE 6.2
Portable Thin Client
To run the JADE Thin Client in portable mode on any compatible
Java-capable Windows or Linux desktop requires the following:
- Sun or IBM Virtual Machine for the Java 2 Runtime Environment
(JRE) Standard Edition (J2SE) Version 1.4.2, up to JADE 6.1 only
- Sun or IBM Virtual Machine for the Java 2 Runtime Environment (JRE) Standard Edition (J2SE) Version 5, from JADE 6.2
- Sun Java Media Framework (JMF) 2.1.1e
Up to JADE 6.1, the minimum compatible Linux distributions are RHEL 3 Workstation, Red Hat Desktop 3, and SUSE 9.2.
From JADE 6.2, the minimum compatible Linux distributions are Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Desktop and SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10.
Advance Notice: From JADE 6.3, the Portable Thin Client and Java API will require Java 6 or later.

relational population service (RPS)
RPS supports the following relational databases:
- Microsoft SQL Server 2000
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005
- Microsoft SQL Server 2008
Virtual environments
JADE will run in a virtual environment on all supported Operating Systems (see above) on Intel-compatible hardware. Support will be provided as per the published release policy for faults found in a virtual environment, however a problem that is suspected to be related to an issue in the virtualisation layer may result in requests for additional customer diagnostic actions. In some rare cases, fixes for issues that are specific to the virtualisation layer may need to be negotiated with the customer.
ANSI and Unicode
JADE is provided in both ANSI and Unicode editions. The ANSI edition
runs under Windows, Red Hat Linux and SUSE Linux for all versions
of JADE 6. In JADE 6.0, the Unicode edition is supported under Windows
only. From JADE 6.1, both the ANSI and Unicode editions are supported
on Windows, Red Hat Linux and SUSE Linux.
